It all started growing up farming and ranching primarily in eastern Colorado. I learned a lot from my childhood. Most importantly a deep faith in God and also the value of a hard day’s work. I could not get enough of playing sports – especially football. Sports were everything to me and taught me teamwork, leadership and how to set and achieve goals. The oldest of seven, we had a full house. I had a great childhood and it shaped who I am today. It also was the launching point for me pursuing a career in finance and wanting to help clients manage their money better. Growing up, we had some rough times. We grew up poor – no middle class here. My parents struggled throughout their lives with money. Planning for long term goals or setting money aside for a rainy day was not a possibility or even a consideration. While in college, my father died unexpectedly without life insurance. With five siblings still at home and the youngest in first grade, my mom was in a bind. We survived – credit to that great work ethic. I realized that although we were never going to “be rich”, there were things that we could have done better with money. Our struggles were mainly the result of a lack of knowledge, poor focus, and a lack of prioritizing. We struggled to cover the basics, you may be struggling to pay for college or are worried about all things retirement. I want to help you reach your goals and overcome the money mistakes so many people make.
